Hospitals

Three needs shape lock selection in a hospital: the right lock case on doors covered by fire regulations, keyless access to lockers used by hundreds of staff, and card-controlled access to rooms in inpatient or guest areas. General Kilit meets these needs with RFID card door locks, coded and card locker locks, the Energy Saver and a presence sensor.

Hospitals

On fire-rated doors, the General and Coral card locks are used with the lock case and hardware listed in the door's fire test report. A TS EN 1634-1 test report issued in the name of Telcom exists for the General card door lock. The locks open by card, record the last 800 openings and can also be opened from outside with a mechanical key.

Changing-room and storage lockers for doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff use coded, card or card-and-code locks, and administrators reach any locker with a master code or master card. The DK112 and DK113 locker locks have insulated, humidity-resistant electronics and operate between -25 and +70 °C.

Needs and solutions

  • Compliance on fire doors

The lock case is chosen to match the one in the door's fire test report. A TS EN 1634-1 test report issued in the name of Telcom exists for the General card door lock.

  • Staff lockers

Healthcare staff open lockers by card, code or both. The card-operated DK119 accepts up to 10,000 users and warns before the battery runs out.

  • Access rights and records

Staff, technical and management cards get different rights. Card door locks store the last 800 openings with card number, date and time.

  • Hidden locks for drawers and cabinets

The DK111 is a hidden contactless card lock for drawers, hinged doors and glass panels; it reads cards through up to 40 mm of wood and is programmed without a computer.

  • Inpatient and guest areas

Hospital rooms and VIP floors can use card locks, energy savers and DND panels as in a hotel room; a presence sensor helps switch loads off in empty areas.

Frequently asked questions

Can any card lock be fitted to a hospital fire door?

No. The lock has to be used with the lock case and hardware listed in the door's fire test report. Unsuitable hardware can affect the door's fire performance.

Card or code for staff lockers?

If the hospital already issues staff cards, a card locker lock compatible with that technology can be chosen; where staff do not carry cards, a coded model fits. Card compatibility is tested before the project.

How is a locker handed over when someone leaves?

With a card system, the leaver's card rights are removed or the card is assigned to another employee, so no keys change hands. How this is done depends on the model chosen.

What happens when a locker battery runs out?

The DK112 and DK113 give an audible warning when the battery is low. The card-operated DK119 warns before the battery is fully drained and then opens automatically; it can also be opened with an external battery.
