Hotels

A hotel needs three things from its lock system: guests open only their own room and staff only their work area, a lost card is replaced without changing the lock, and room power follows the guest card. General Kilit covers this with RFID card door locks, the Energy Saver and the DND/MUR doorbell panel, so the door, room power and room status all run on the same card.

Hotels

On the door, the General, General Black, General Gold, Pios and Coral models read 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz contactless cards, while Coral Black and Coral Dark use 13.56 MHz MIFARE cards. The locks are battery powered: battery life is 2 years or 50,000 openings, and about 200 more openings remain after the low-battery warning. Each lock stores its last 800 openings with card type, card number, date and time; cards are encoded at reception with the Telcom card lock software.

Inside the room, the Energy Saver powers the lighting, selected sockets and, where the project requires, the air-conditioning line while the card is in its slot, and switches them off after a delay once the card is removed. The DND/MUR panel outside the door shows "do not disturb" and "make up room" requests in the corridor. On fire-rated room doors, the General and Coral models are planned together with a lock case that matches the door's fire test report.

Needs and solutions

  • Separate rights for guests and staff

A guest card opens only its own room; housekeeping, technical and management cards get their own access rights. Cards are encoded at reception with the lock software.

  • Lost cards and emergency opening

A lost card is replaced by a new one without changing the lock. The lock can be opened from outside with a mechanical key and shows a red "do not disturb" light when locked from inside.

  • Energy use in empty rooms

The Energy Saver powers lighting, sockets and optionally the air-conditioning line while the card is inserted, then switches off after a delay. It connects directly to 220 V with a built-in relay; a 40 A option exists.

  • Communication with housekeeping

The DND/MUR panel makes do-not-disturb and make-up-room requests visible from the corridor, and DND mutes the bell. The IDEA model's check-in feature shows whether the guest is in the room.

  • Fire-rated doors

On a fire door the lock must match the lock case and hardware in the door's test report. A TS EN 1634-1 test report issued in the name of Telcom exists for the General card door lock.

  • Renovation projects

Door thickness, mortise opening and handle position are checked before choosing a model. Wi-Fi doorbell models install without breaking walls or running new cables.

Frequently asked questions

Do hotel card door locks work during a power cut?

Yes. Guest-room card locks run on batteries, so a power cut does not affect them. Battery life is 2 years or 50,000 openings, with about 200 more openings after the low-battery warning.

What happens if a guest loses the room card?

Reception encodes a new card and the lock does not need to be changed. How the old card is cancelled depends on the functions of the lock software in use.

Can the same card work with the energy saver?

Yes. The Energy Saver works with the IC, RF and MIFARE cards used in the door locks. An IR-switch model is also available for hotels without electronic locks.

Is an energy saver useful in rooms without air conditioning?

Yes. In rooms without air conditioning only the lighting and selected sockets are tied to the card. In air-conditioned rooms the AC line can be added through a relay or contactor rated for its current.

Can card locks be fitted to an existing hotel?

In most projects, yes. The model is chosen after checking door thickness, mortise opening, handle position and the door's fire rating; on large projects a trial installation on a few doors comes first.

What records does a hotel door lock keep?

The lock stores its last 800 openings with card type, card number, date and time. The records are transferred by IR to a data collection device.
