Student dormitories

In a student dormitory, the lock system makes sure each student enters only the block, floor and room they are authorised for, staff and management work with their own rights, and a lost card is cancelled and replaced. General Kilit supplies card room locks, student locker locks and the Energy Saver for state, foundation and private dormitories.

Student dormitories

Card locks on room doors run on batteries, need no cabling and keep opening with a card during a power cut. Each lock records its last 800 openings with card number, date and time, and the records can be transferred by IR to a data collection device. On doors covered by fire regulations, the General and Coral models are planned with a lock case that matches the door's fire test report.

Student lockers use the coded DK112, the card-and-code DK113 or the card-operated DK119; when a code is forgotten, the administration opens the locker with a master code or master card. In teachers' guesthouses, police guesthouses and institutional guest houses, the same infrastructure becomes a hotel-style room package: card door lock, energy saver, DND/MUR doorbell and coded locker lock together.

Needs and solutions

  • Block, floor and room separation

A student card is authorised only for its own block, floor and room; staff and management cards are encoded with separate rights. Separate blocks for male and female students are enforced by card rights.

  • Lost cards and key chaos

A lost card is cancelled and the student gets a new one; the lock stays in place. Copying mechanical keys and passing spare keys around comes to an end.

  • Entry records

Card locks store the last 800 openings with card type, card number, date and time; the records are transferred by IR to a data collection device.

  • Fire doors

On doors covered by fire regulations, the lock case is chosen to match the door's test report. For existing doors, the door section, fire rating and mortise are checked first.

  • Student lockers

The coded DK112, card-and-code DK113 and card-operated DK119 suit both assigned and day-use lockers. If a code is forgotten, staff open the locker with a master code or master card.

  • Guesthouses and staff housing

Rooms in teachers' and police guesthouses use card locks, energy savers and DND/MUR doorbells together; lights and sockets switch off when the room is empty.

Frequently asked questions

Can every student open every door?

No. A student card is authorised only for its own block, floor and room. Staff and management cards have their own rights.

What happens if a student loses the card?

The dormitory office cancels the lost card and issues a new one. The lost card no longer opens the room, and the lock does not need to be changed.

Do dormitory room locks work during a power cut?

Yes. Room-door card locks run on batteries, so they keep opening with a card during a power cut. Battery life is 2 years or 50,000 openings.

Can card locks be fitted to an existing dormitory?

In most cases, yes. The door construction, lock case and fire rating are checked; usually a pilot on a few doors comes first, followed by the whole building.

What if a student forgets the locker code?

The student does not force the locker; staff open it with a master code or master card and reset the lock for use.

Which system suits teachers' and police guesthouses?

These buildings run their rooms like a hotel, so card door locks, energy savers, DND/MUR doorbells and coded locker locks are planned together. Guest cards are encoded at reception.
